Recently having a change of career and returning to the NHS in January 2015, I have re-trained as a Therapy Assistant and now work with the Navigation Team under the Occupational Therapy Department on the medical wards. I employ a holistic approach to patient care, placing patient safety, dignity and spiritual well-being at the centre of my clinical reasoning. I am a Dignity Champion and responsible for assisting with the development and delivery of in-service training. I was involved with the “mock” CQC inspections to support the Trust board in establishing strengths and weaknesses at all levels and in all areas of the Hospital Trust. I actively strive to develop my clinical and therapy skills learning, taking up the many training and CPD opportunities that are available.
Having a background of 30 years in business and office management, service improvement and customer service, in both self-employed and employed roles, I bring many transferable skills to the table.
Following roles in sales administration and office supervision, and during the period that I was raising my family, I started a business offering secretarial, proof-reading and composition services. My portfolio included the design, composition, proof-reading and editing of marketing brochures and literature for private schools and businesses, liaising with publishers and printers to deliver on time. In addition, I offered CV and letter composition services to individuals, which led to many successful outcomes. I ran this business for 3 years.
Following relocation to Bedfordshire, and due to my growing interest in health and nutrition, I retrained and started a business offering Beauty and Holistic Therapies for 6 years. To augment my business, I secured treatment rooms in a local Dental surgery and also an Integrated Therapy Practise offering Reflexology and Massage Therapy to patients and clients who experienced difficulties with anxiety or life pressures.
I was solely responsible for the creation, marketing, development and management of my enterprises. I chose to return to an employed status to further develop my skills and career following a further relocation and once my family were older and more independent.
The last 10 years provided me with the opportunity to continue to develop my management, leadership, customer service and service improvement skills. Often my remit included the complete overhaul of inter-departmental communication streams, improving the customer experience and administration processes, reducing costs and increasing staff moral through training and motivational leadership.
