Mr. Birdi trained in Medicine in the United Kingdom and has been a doctor in the National Health Service since 1989. He undertook a period of research at The Bristol Heart Institute during which time he contributed numerous publications to leading international journals. He trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the world acclaimed Papworth Hospital. He became a Consultant and returned to his home town of Nottingham in 2003. In 2007, he was asked to lead a new program of minimally invasive surgery at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, where he is also Lead Surgeon, and Clinical Governance Chairman. The Centre now has one of the largest mitral valve repair programs in the United Kingdom and offers an entirely bespoke minimally invasive program led by Mr. Birdi
